NOMAD – Mobile Bio-Fertiliser Solutions

Climate change, ecosystems degradation and growing populations are forcing us to seek new ways of producing and consuming that respect the ecological limits of our planet. Worldwide, organic waste accounts for an average of 46% of global waste.

Digestate, a nutrient-rich liquid by-product produced by anaerobic digestion in biogas plants, could be key to a more sustainable and regenerative agriculture.

NOMAD will help biogas operators and farmers convert a wide range of digestates into high-quality bio-fertilisers by developing smart, mobile technology with unique features:

  • Recovery of valuable nutrients using advanced processes
  • Removal of harmful antibiotics and pathogens
  • Validated post-treatment options for digestate fibre

In four pilot sites (Italy, Greece, Malta and UK) across Europe the versatility of the technology in different geographical locations, climates and soil conditions will be tested to identify specific digestate and regulatory bottlenecks.
